Matt Northeast
Matt Northeast comes from a musical family so it was of no surprise that at the age of 6 he started learning classical piano.
He finished his studies some 12 years later and quickly moved into the live music scene as well as the recording studio. It wasn’t
until his 18 birthday when a relative bought him the album Dark Side of the Moon that Matt’s appreciation of the Pink Floyd sound
began to emerge. Through some years to follow, Matt listened and played hoping to perfect the sounds of Floyd. Matt says ‘it can become
an obsession, the more you listen, the more you hear’.
Throughout the last 20 years or so of live performances, he has played keyboard for many Australian artists such as Angry Anderson
(Rose Tattoo), Russell Morris, and Matt Taylor (Chain). He has toured extensively throughout Australia and internationally, playing at
some of the finest venues on offer.
He first joined the Beyond the Dark Side show in 2004 on their tour of Australia, then in 2006, joined them once again for the tour of
Germany. Matt feels that he needed another ‘Floyd Fix’ so at the beginning of 2010, he joined the boys on their North Queensland tour
Feeling very much at home on stage, playing Floyd just makes the job a whole lot more pleasurable for him – ‘walking on stage knowing
that for the next few hours, I will be playing some of the finest music every written, and that it will transport me to where ever I
need to be’.
